Strawberries Aid in Fighting Diabetes

A new study has come out from The Salk Insitiute showing that strawberries can help mitigate the symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes, along with promoting neuron growth in mice.  The scientists have focused on one of the flavonoids called fisetin in this research.  Fisetin has previously been shown to improve memory in mice, offset the motor problems seen in Huntington’s Disease, and has been shown to arrest cell growth in certain cancer cells.

This study is yet another example of the beneficial effects of bioflavonoids.  Those of you who have heard me speak know that I discuss the health benefits of the foods that you eat.  This study is yet another example of this idea, and of the the fact that through proper diet and nutrition, you can both prevent the onset of certain diseases, and can offset some of the negative effects of these conditions.
