The Road to Health is what?

"The road to health is paved with good intestines" – Dr. Deedra Mason
This is one of my favorite quotes with respect to health and wellness. We generally don’t think of our small intestine when it comes to our immune systems. Yet 70% of our immune system is based in our small intestines. Obviously then good intestinal health is important to normal immune system functionality.
How can we improve our intestinal health? One way to do this is to ensure that we consume the proper amount of probiotics in our diets. Probiotics are the good bacteria that help us to digest our foods and keep the bad bacteria in our intestines in check, preventing infections. (I will talk about this in a future post). Another way is by improving our diets, especially making sure that we get enough fiber in our diet. Think about this – how did we make paper mache in elementary school? By mixing flour and water. Let’s take a typical American diet. Say that you are running late for a meeting and you get some doughnuts and a soda through the drive-in. What are those but flour and water? Literally you are putting paper mache into your intestines, gumming up the system. If your small intestine is not functioning properly, your immune system will not function properly. Therefore, the road to health is indeed, paved with good intestines.
To Your Health!
